Odisha police arrest two members of ATM theft gang from Haryana

Cuttack, Mar 27:

A special squad of Commissionerate police have arrested two members of a gang involved in series of thefts at ATM kiosks in Odisha from Haryana, police said today.

According to police, the accused have been arrested from Mewat in Haryana after a gunfight. The exchange of fire ensued while the cops intercepted to nab them.

“The gang has looted an ATM counter at Gandarpur in Cuttack where they decamped with Rs 16.76 lakh. Besides, they were involved in a series of ATM theft cases in Balasore, Bhadrak and Dhenkanal districts. Four other members of the gang are still at large. We are raiding several hideouts to nab them,” Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania told media persons at a press conference here.

Police have seized a car, gun and seven rounds of bullets from their possession.

During October-November last year, the gang looted eight ATMs at various districts in the state. The robbers used gas cutters to break into the cash dispensing tray inside the vending machine, police said.

They are being brought to Odisha on transit remand, police added.
