Odisha police arrests 3 cyber fraudsters from Jharkhand

Bhawanipatna: In a breakthrough, the Kalahandi police arrested three cyber fraudsters from Jamtara district of Jharkhand on charges of duping people of over Rs 50 lakh all over the country.

The trio in disguise of customer care operators cheated people all over India of more than Rs.50 lakh.

Speaking about their modus operandi, Kalahandi SP informed that they place advertisements in Google under various brand names and put their personal mobile phone numbers in place of customer care numbers. When ‘gullible’ customers call them, they managed to convince the victims to click on a link that they share on their mobile phones. This link leads to a fake payment page which is in fact a phishing page.

“When victims share their bank details thinking they are making payment, the fraudsters immediately use the details and withdraw money from their bank accounts. A team of Kalahandi police team with  the help of Jamtara cops arrested the trio,” the SP said.
