Odisha: Police inspector held in DA case

Bhubaneswar: The Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Gaisilet Police Station in Bargarh district of Odisha was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths today for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Vigilance department has registered a case against accused Birabar Bhagat and his spouse under Sections 13 (2) r/w 13 (1)(b)/12 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018, sources said.

The accused police IIC has been produced in the court of Vigilance Special Judge at Sambalpur, sources added.

Vigilance sleuths have unearthed movable and immovable assets worth above Rs 2 crore in the name of the accused police IIC and his family members during the house searches, said an official.

The IIC and his family possess a double-storey building worth Rs 77 lakh at Anguliapada in Sambalpur city, a farm house worth Rs 21 lakh at Kabarapali in Sambalpur district, plots worth Rs 1.11 crore at Sambalpur, Bonei and Sundargarh, Bank & insurance deposits worth Rs 16.68 lakh, gold ornaments weighing around 166 grams, two four-wheelers worth Rs 13.65 lakh and two two-wheelers and household articles worth Rs 9.41 lakh, added the Vigilance official.

The Vigilance sleuths also found Rs 79,460 in cash from the possession of the accused IIC.

The accused police IIC possessed disproportionate assets (DA), which is 179 per cent higher than his known sources of income, said the Vigilance department.
