Bhubaneswar: In the wake of viral sex videos doing the rounds on social media sites, Odisha police today issued advisory to all the district SPs and public to check circulation of such videos on the internet.

"An advisory has been given to all the district SPs and police officers to follow a standard operating procedure (SOP) to deal with cases right from examining the objectionable images and videos that are going viral on social media platforms till filing the cases," said DGP RP Sharma after inaugurating a cyber forensic division on the premises of the State Forensic Laboratory here today.

"Also the advisory has been issued to general people about dos and don’ts of the viral videos and urging them to help the law enforcement agencies," he said.

The objectionable pictures and videos are harassing the victims and creating social stigma. These are also used as a tool to blackmail others by posting those on social media platforms, he said.

He hoped that the advisory and public awareness against circulation of viral videos will help police to reduce such crime.

Talking about newly inaugurated cyber forensic division that became functional from today, Sharma said, "In cyber crime the digital exhibits, which were sent to other central forensic science laboratory in Kolkata and Hyderabad and sometimes to Chandigarh earlier, the reports were getting delayed. At our own forensic division, we will get the reports soon that will help us in examining and investigation in the cyber crime cases."
