Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police has issued a set of guidelines for bursting of crackers during Diwali celebration in the Silver City here on October 25.

The people have been told to burst crackers only from 8 pm to 10 pm as part of the Diwali celebration. They have been asked not burst crackers containing harmful chemicals and explosives. Any violation in this regard would invite stringent action, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra at a press conference here today.

“No one would be allowed to burst high-decibel firecrackers in crowded areas. Inspectors in-charge (IICs) of all police stations in the city have been directed to intensify patrolling during Diwali celebration,” added the DCP.

The Commissionerate Police has decided to deploy around 50 platoons of police personnel, six Additional DCPs and 300 police officers for smooth organisation of Kali Puja in the city.

“This year, the Goddess will be worshipped at 90 pandals across the city. Security personnel will be deployed at each of the 90 pandals. The Commissionerate Police will introduce all possible measures for a smooth immersion ceremony on October 28,” said the DCP.

Notably, the state government had imposed restrictions on public celebration of Kali Puja and Diwali for last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
