Odisha police nabs 2 Jamtara Gang members from Jharkhand

Bhubaneswar: The cyber crime wing of the Commissionerate Police today  arrested two members of the notorious Jamtara Gang from Giridih district in Jharkhand district.

Briefing mediapersons,  DCP Uma Shankar Das said the two accused have defrauded  several people in Odisha by unscrupulously withdrawing money from their bank accounts. Following their arrest, the two have been sent for medical examination.

Police sources said they were defrauding people on the pretext of eKYC updation. A probe into the incident had begun after an elderly man lodged a complaint at Cyber Desk here recently. Later a police team went to Jharkhand and arrested the duo. The cops also seized few mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops and cash from them. They will investigate if the two have looted people in any other state, besides Odisha.

Earlier on January 29, Odisha Crime Branch had arrested three youth in Bhubaneswar for allegedly defrauding people through online payment platforms. The accused were operating in the pattern of Ja mtara Gang and were involved in cheating people in as many as 20 states.

The three accused were staying in a rented house in Rasulgarh area of Bhubaneswar since December 28, 2021 and operating their crime syndicate from there.
