Jeypore: A rice mill owner, who was kidnapped on the night of July 12 by some miscreants from Borigumma locality in Koraput district, was rescued late last night by police at around 1.00 AM. This was informed today by Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Sonkar in a presser held here.

“The abductee was safely rescued after around 48 hours,” Koraput SP said mediapersons.

Worth mentioning, the abductors had demanded Rs 70 lakh ransom to release the rice miller A. Ramesh Patra. He is the owner of Shree Lakshmi Rice Mill in Borigumma. Patra was abducted near a canal at Perahandi village when he was returning home from his mill by car at around 8.00 PM.

After searching for Patra at all probable locations, his family had lodged an FIR with Borigumma police. Swinging into action, a police team initiated a probe leading to the rescue of rice miller Patra.

Based on the footage of CCTVs installed in the locality, Borigumma police reached out to the abductors. About four persons are involved in the kidnapping of mill owner Patra, a source previously said.
