Bhubaneswar, Apr 23:
Odisha’s twin city Commissionerate Police today took sex racket kingpin Sunil Meher on a four day remand for further interrogation.
Even thought the cops had prayed for a five-day remand, Bhubaneswar Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court had yesterday allowed the cops to take him on a four-day custody for investigation.
As per a source in the police, he is being grilled at the Nayapalli police station today. The cops are trying to explore his connections with interstate sex trade. Besides, how he managed to bring in sex workers of foreign origin is another key area of investigation.
Further, his connections with key figures including politicians, bureaucrats, police officials and journalists is also another important angle, the source added.
Notably, the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police arrested him in Kolkata on Thursday. He is wanted in 12 cases and has been arrested seven times since 2010.
On his part, however, Sunil refuted the allegations of running sex trade in the state.
“The allegations are baseless. I have left this business since I am residing outside Odisha since last one year,” Sunil Meher claimed speaking to reporters yesterday.
