Odisha police to intensify drive against drunken driving

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has decided to act tough against cases of drunken driving as checking of the offence will be conducted at 14 toll gates in the state from today, official sources said.

The checking will be carried out at toll gates near Sheragarh, Panikoili, Dhenkikote, Palaspanga, Ramachandrapur, Pipili, Masunikani, Rajgangpur, Tapanga, Langaleswar, Sasan, Attabira, Balichandrapur and Manguli by using breath analysers.

Anyone found driving in an inebriated state or under the influence of drugs will be arrested. Within 2 hours of arrest, the arrestee will be subjected to medical test by a registered medical practitioner for the purpose of collection of specimen of his blood. The offender will be arrested on detection of alcohol beyond 30 mg per 100 ml blood, sources added.

Police officers have been instructed to facilitate shifting of stranded passengers of detained commercial vehicles by alternative modes of conveyance.
