Odisha to send teams to 10 states under Operation Smile-II

Odisha Police will send 10 joint teams consisting of members from Odisha Police and Women and Child Development Department personnel to 10 different states of the country under Operation Smile-II to rescue missing children.

As per information provided by Crime branch ADG BK Sharma, the states include Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand and Bihar.

So far, since the operation began on January 1, 2016, the Police have rescued 122 children from various parts of the state in the first phase.

“We have rescued 122 children from various districts of the state. There are many districts where we managed to find more than one missing children. Such districts include Kendrapara, Sambalpur, Nuapada and Sundargarh. The missing children have been handed over to their parents,” said Sharma speaking to reporters today.

“The list includes a child missing girl child of Jammu and Kashmir who was rescued from Delanga area of Puri and another child from Madhya Pradesh who was rescued from Sundargarh. They have been handed over to concerned authorities from their states,” he added.

As per information provided by ADG Sharma, the second phase of the operation would continue till January 31.

On the other hand, a five member team of Rajasthan Police today reached Cuttack to take back some of the missing children who are likely to be in some of the orphanages of Cuttack. The team today held a meeting with Cuttack DCP and visited some of the orphanages too. They are likely to continue their search and rescue operation in Bhubaneswar and Puri.
