Odisha police to take arrested fake doctor’s 2nd wife on 5-day remand
Bhubaneswar: The SDJM Court here today granted permission to Commissionerate Police (CP) to take the second wife of fake doctor Ramesh Swain on a five-day remand for interrogation in connection with the fraud case.
However, the court rejected the cops’ appeal to extend remand period of the main accused, who was arrested in February for allegedly marrying over 17 women impersonating himself as a doctor and later duping them of lakhs of rupees.
Two days ago, police had arrested Ramesh’s second wife Kamala Tirkey, a doctor, from Jharkhand for her involvement in the fraudulent activities carried out by the fake doctor. She was on the run ever since the arrest of Ramesh.

So far, four persons–Ramesh, his sister Rashmita, second wife Kamala and driver Papu– have been arrested in the fraud case.
On February 14, the CP had arrested Ramesh, a father of five children. He had married his first wife in 1982 and second wife in 2002. Between 2002 and 2020, he befriended other women through matrimonial websites and later married them impersonating himself as a doctor.
A case has been registered against him at the Mahila police station under Sections 498 (A), 419, 468, 471 and 494 of the IPC.
