Odisha: Policeman under Vigilance scanner for taking bribe in State Capital

Bhubaneswar: A team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths today caught a police sub-inspector (SI) red-handed, while he was accepting bribe. The SI is presently working in Saheed Nagar PS of Bhubaneswar.

The cop identified as Priyabrata Pradhan of Bhubaneswar UPD has been apprehended by the Vigilance while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 as the second installment of a total demand of Rs 5,000 from a complainant to return the seized DL in connection with a case registered in the police station two days ago. The complainant had previously paid Rs 3,000 to Pradhan on March 21.

However, the cop demanded Rs 2,000 more to release the DL. A trap was subsequently laid by the Vigilance team leading to his arrest and seizure of the bribe money from his possession.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations of Pradhan from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, a Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS case (No-8/2024, U/s-7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 was registered. A detailed probe has been initiated against Pradhan over a graft charge.
