Odisha polls: Bibhu Tarai gets BJP ticket for Jagatsinghpur LS seat

Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today fielded former Congress man Bibhu Prasad Tarai to contest the upcoming polls from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha Constituency.

With his nomination for the Lok Sabha polls, he will enter into election against Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress’ women candidates Rajashree Mallick and Pratima Mallick respectively in fourth phase scheduled on April 28.

Earlier, Congress had nominated him as the MLA candidate from Tirtol Assembly seat in the ensuing polls.

However, he deserted the grand old national party on April 3 expressing discontent over ticket distribution and joined the BJP next day.

Worth mentioning, Tarai was elected to Lok Sabha from Jagatsinghpur on a CPI ticket backed by BJD in 2009. Later, he was expelled from the party for alleged anti-party activities. Then, he joined the Congress ahead of the 2014 general elections.

On the other hand, the BJP also allotted ticket to former BJD leader Rabi Mallick for the assembly polls from Kakatpur seat. The party also announced Sunakar Behera’s name as the poll candidate from Kendrapara Assembly seat for the fourth phase of elections.
