Odisha polls: BJD announces candidate for Baripada Assembly seat

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced the name of Sarojini Hembram as party’s candidate for the Baripada Assembly constituency in Odisha.

An announcement in this regard was made by Odisha Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik here.

“Sarojini Hembram will be our MLA candidate from Baripada,” Patnaik said.

Hembram, currently a Rajya Sabha member, had successfully contested the 2009 assembly polls from Bangriposi Vidhan Sabha constituency as a BJD candidate. She was also serving as Minister of State (Independent Charge), Department of Textiles, Handloom and Handicraft, Government of Odisha from 2012 to 2014. She was later elected to the Upper House of Parliament in 2014.

Worth mentioning, Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held simultaneously in Odisha in four phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29. Baripada Assembly constituency will go to polls in the fourth phase on April 29.
