Odisha polls: Candidates can e-file nomination papers

Reported by Chinmaya Dehury

Bhubaneswar, Mar 22:

In a move to bring about faster dissemination of information about candidates, the Chief Election Commission (CEC) has decided that candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections would be able to e-file their nominations and affidavits online, informed chief electoral officer (CEO) Mona Sharma here today.

E-filing will be in an additional option for candidates to the traditional way of filing nomination in paper form.

Even though the e-filling system is not mandatory, the Election Commission will soon ask the government to modify the current rules to make e-filing mandatory, said sources.

“This decision of the Election Commission will help accelerate the process of dissemination of information regarding the criminal, financial, educational and other background details of candidates contesting elections,” said Sharma.
