Odisha polls: Congress leader Premananda Behera quits party

Bhubaneswar: Congress leader and former Satyabadi panchayat samiti chairman Premananda Behera today quit the party ahead of 2019 general elections.

He tendered his resignation to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) chief Niranjan Patnaik expressing his discontent over ticket disbursement for the upcoming polls.

Earlier, several leaders had deserted the Congress alleging impartiality by the party president and top leaders including former MP Pradeep Majhi in candidates’ selection for both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Notably, Congress has announced three lists of candidates for 17 Lok Sabha and 112 Assembly constituencies so far. The remaining candidates will be announced soon.
