Odisha post best ever show in National Games

Odisha ended its campaign in the 35th National Games which concluded at Kochi in Kerala on Friday with its best ever performance.

The Odisha team bagged 15 medals, including six gold, five silver and four bronze medals, and was placed 16th in the medal tally. The state team had won 12 medals (five gold, four silver and three bronze) in the 2011 National Games.

On the concluding day of the event, ace sprinters Dutte Chand and Amiya Kumar Mallick bagged bronze medal each in the 200-metre women and men’s event clocking 24.56 seconds and 21.57 seconds respectively.

The Odisha women’s rugby team created history by winning the gold medal in the ‘7-A Side’ event as they beat Maharashtra by 17-5 points in the final at the Corporation Stadium in Kollam.

Congratulating the Odisha team, Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) announced Rs 1 lakh each for the gold medal winners and Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for the silver and bronze medallists respectively.
