Odisha prepares to tackle cyclonic storm, issues advisory

Bhubaneswar: In view of the deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal and possible cyclonic storm, the authorities have issued an advisory to the farmers to keep crops in safer places in Odisha.

As the crops are in the matured stage and it may be damaged due to rainfall predicted by the IMD. The collectors have been asked to inform the farmers to take necessary steps to keep crops safe from being wasted, said Joint Relief Commissioner Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra here today.

The farmers have been advised to shift the harvested crops to safer places and keep those covered in the paddy yard, he said.

An advisory has been issued by the agriculture department and OUAT to the farmers in this regard for the safety of crops.

Notably, the deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal lay centered at 5.30 am on Saturday over southwest and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal, 730 km away from Chennai and 930 km from Machlipatnam. It is very likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hrs.

The IMD predicted rainfall and moderate rainfall for almost all the districts on Dec 16, 17 and 18 in Odisha. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for six districts included Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
