Odisha: Punjilal walks out of jail on parole to perform last rites of mother

Balangir: Punjilal Meher, the accused in Patnagarh parcel bomb blast case, was released from jail on parole today to perform last rites of his mother at his native place in Balangir district.

He was lodged at Balangir jail. He walked out of the prison amidst security, a day after a local court granted him one-day parole after his mother’s death. He will be taken to Patnagarh shortly.

Punjilal’s mother Indumati Meher was suffering from cancer. She died on Friday morning. However, the family has been waiting for Punjilal, who will perform her last rites.

Worth mentioning, Punjilal, a lecturer at Jyoti Vikash Junior College, Patnagarh, was arrested by the Crime Branch of Odisha Police on April 25, 2018, in the parcel bomb blast case in which two persons including a newlywed youth were killed at their home.

Police alleged that the plot was carried out very minutely by Punjilal, who had been replaced by the deceased youth’s mother as Principal of the college, to eliminate her.
