Odisha: Quarantine centre inmates go on hunger strike demanding their swab tests

Gajapati: Protesting delay in swab testing, around 80 migrant returnees at Baghasala quarantine centre under Gosani block in Gajapati district today staged hunger strike.

They said though the quarantine period has been over 15 days, the district administration is yet to carry out their swab sample test.

One of the inmates at the quarantine centre said the migrants returned to the State while maintaining social distance. But without any symptoms most of the migrants have been kept at the quarantine centre, the inmate added.

“As some of us are symptomatic, we demand swab of all the inmates at the quarantine centre should be sent for tests as otherwise it is not safe going back home. We are therefore staging the hunger strike at the quarantine center,” the inmate said.

After receiving information, the BDO and local Tahslidar reached the center and pacified the inmates.
