In the event of the death of any poll official due to violence caused by Maoists or any other violence his/her next of kin will get an ex-gratia amount of Rs 20 lakh.

The ex-gratia amount will be provided by the State Election Commission (SEC).

Similarly, in the event of the death of any poll official due to any mishap or any other reason while on election tour his/her next of kin will be provided with a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, informed SEC Secretary Rabindra Nath Sahu to reporters here today.

In the event of a poll official losing his/her sight or getting disabled due to attack by miscreants, the concerned official will be provided with a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, he added.

The compensation amounts have been doubled this time in comparison to previous polls.

All Central and state government employees in charge of the polls will be eligible for the compensation.

Further, government and private drivers, helpers, personnel of state police and Central forces will be also eligible for the compensation, Sahu said.
