Odisha: Rape accused cop taken on 4-day remand

Rourkela: The dismissed IIC of Biramitrapur police station Ananda Chandra Majhi was sent to a four-day remand of Crime Branch today.

The Sundargarh Additional District Magistrate Court allowed Crime Branch to take Ananda Chandra on the four-day remand against the State investigation agency’s prayer for a seven-day remand. The court also rejected the accused’s bail plea.

Prior to producing him the court, the Crime Branch took Ananda Chandra to IGH for medical examination.

Yesterday the Crime Branch arrested Ananda Chandra from a forested area under Handapa Police Station of Angul district. He was arrested his alleged involvement in rape and abortion of a minor girl.

DGP Abhay dismissed Ananda Chandra from service after the Crime Branch found prima facie evidence in the allegations made by the 13-year-old girl.
