The Niladri Bije event involves a number of interesting and dramatic rituals.

As Lord Jagannath heads for the temple, the entrance gate is kept shut by His celestial consort Laxmi, who expresses her anger over the Lord’s absence from the temple during the Rath Yatra, without her consent.

After this drama of daily domestic tiffs is enacted through the servitors representing both Lord Jagannath and Goddess Laxmi, the celestial couple finally makes up  and the temple door is opened for the Lord to enter the main temple.

The three deities finally return to their bejeweled throne, the Ratna Singhasana, in the Garbha Griha or the sanctum sanctorum.
