Odisha Rath Yatra: Insurance cover for all

In order to provide compensation to the devotees, in case of death, during the world famous Rath Yatra Puri in Odisha, scheduled on June 29, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has insured Srimandir, Gundicha temple, Badadanda (Grand Road) and the lanes connecting these areas.

Sources in the SJTA said these places have been insured to provide compensation to the tune of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of any devotee, who faces death while taking part in the Rath Yatra celebrations along the Bada Danda or inside the Gundicha temple.

Besides, if any devotee dies inside the premises of Sri Jagannath temple, his/her family would be provided with the same amount of compensation.

According to the New India Assurance which has extended such facilities for the devotees as per its agreement with the SJTA, the term of insurance for Sri Jagannath temple premises is for one year from July 22, 2014 to July 21, 2015 while the term of insurance for the Badadanda area from Sri Jagannath temple to Sri Gundicha temple and within 50 feet of the lanes connecting the Badadanda will remain in force from June 29, 2014 to July 11, 2014.

Similarly, the term of insurance for Sri Gundicha temple premises will remain in force from June 29, 2014 to July 7, 2014, the sources added.
