Odisha: ‘Ratnagiri Road’ railway station renamed as ‘Udayagiri-Ratnagiri Road’ station

Jajpur: ‘Ratnagiri Road’ railway station, the third one coming under Haridaspur-Paradip rail link project and Khordha division of East Coast Railway (ECoR), has been renamed as ‘Udayagiri-Ratnagiri Road’ station by the Central Government, an official source said today.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs, CS division has written a letter in this regard to Special Secretary to Home Department, Odisha Government. The Special Secretary has been requested to publish the renaming in Odisha Gazette. A pattern on how to mention the new name in English, Hindi and local language was provided in the ‘no objection’ letter of the Union Ministry.

It is pertinent to mention, the railway station is located near the famous Boudha Vihar in Udayagiri.

Local residents and an outfit named Udayagiri Mahotsav Samiti had earlier raised voices demanding rename of the railway station a few months ago, saying that the Boudha Vihar in Udayagiri is being neglected. The decision of renaming was done in response to public demand.
