Cuttack: A student of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack was attacked allegedly by his classmate on premises of the institution over a past dispute.

A complaint has been lodged by the victim identified as Manoranjan Acharya at the Malgodown Police Station against the accused seeking protection for himself.

According to reports, Manoranjan, a first year student of Journalism & Mass Communication Department at Ravenshaw University and the resident of Adalia village under Cuttack Sadar police limits, was assaulted by his classmate Ajit Kumar Dash inside the campus on Feb 29 over a past grudge.

"He stopped me and hit me with his belt. He abused me and threatened to kill me," the victim said today.

Speaking exclusively to Sambad English, Manoranjan said that the students of JMC Department had visited KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, to attend a workshop in November last year. He had a face-off with Ajit at the varsity over some remarks against one of his female classmates following which a complaint was lodged at Infocity Police Station.

"As the female student had 15 witnesses including me in her favour at the police station, the cops asked Ajit to arrange two witnesses to settle the matter. However, he failed to get support from other friends and continued holding grudges against me," said Manoranjan, who is also a lawyer.

On Saturday morning, Ajit attacked his classmate Manoranjan in front of the JMC Department while he was coming out of the examination hall.

"He warned me of dire consequences if I intervene into the female classmate's case further," the victim told the media.

The matter was brought into notice of the Department head and a complaint was filed with police as well. However, he alleged that neither varsity authorities nor police initiated process to take action against the accused student.
