Odisha ready to go for MRTS for faster travel between twin cities

The Housing & Urban Development department of the Odisha government today signed an ‘award of contract’ with Balaji Railroad Systems Ltd for preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for mass rapid transit system (MRTS) between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The consultant agency would get Rs 2.52 crore for preparation of DPR for approximately 30 km within a period of ten months.

The project financing structure involves 50% funding by the Centre under the scheme of Urban Transport Planning and the rest 50% by Odisha govt.

The broad scope of work for the agency to prepare the DPR covering traffic demand assessment and system selection and including mobility analysis, alignment study, multimodal land-integration plan, land acquisition details and transit oriented development.

It would also study economic analysis of the project which will assist the govt to decide on successful implementation of the project.
