Odisha receives 1st lot of OmiSure kits; to be used in 4 cities initially

Bhubaneswar: Amidst the rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, Odisha today received 50,000 OmiSure kits, currently being used in the country  to detect the new Omicron variant.

Sources from Health and Family Welfare department said in first phase, the kits will be used in Berhampur, Cuttack, Rourkela and Bhubaneswar.

Sharing details, Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra said after arrival of the kits, dry run of the same has already begun.

“The kits will first be used for internal study and later be dispatched to districts reporting high number of COVID cases. The kit will be of great help to detect the new Omicron variant easily,” said the official.

He further said R value will remain high in some places as the virus’ transmission rate is high in the state.However, he urged people not to panic and get themselves tested even if they develop mild symptoms. Efforts are afoot to increase the number of testing as per the Centre’s guidelines.

On the possibility of another lockdown, the official said as of now, no such situation has arisen in the state to impose restrictions like lockdown or shutdown.
