Odisha records lowest unemployment rate in the country at 1%

Bhubaneswar: The State of Odisha has recorded the lowest unemployment rate in the country, shows the data provided by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) today.

The CMIE data shows Odisha has the lowest unemployment rate at 1% in the month of February 2022. The State of Bihar has the highest unemployment rate at 14%.

The data further mentions the unemployment rate in India in February at 7.5%. In rural areas, the unemployment rate was at 7.2% while the urban areas had 8.1% unemployment rate.

The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy is an independent non-government entity that serves both as an economic think-tank as well as a business information company.

On December 20, 2021, in reply to an unstarred question asked by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Rameswar Teli informed the Lok Sabha that the unemployment rate in the country was at 4.8% in 2019-20.

The Union Minister further stated Odisha had unemployment rate at 6.2% in 2019-2020, 7% in 2018-2019 and 7.1% in 2017-2018.

The data presented in the Lok Sabha was based on the annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) reports, the details of the estimated Unemployment Rate (UR) for persons of age 15 years and above on usual status basis in the country.
