Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported steep spike in COVID-19 cases today with the State recording 17 new cases. With this the State tally reached 142.
In last 24 hours, Odisha reported 20 positive cases.
Official sources said the 14 fresh cases have been reported from Katikata containment area of Jajpur district. Six females are among the fresh positive cases.
All are asymptomatic and have West Bengal connection, said official sources, adding that contact tracing and follow-up action are being done.
So far, 36 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Jajpur district.
Earlier in the day, the Odisha government said three persons of the district were detected positive for the deadly virus.
Till yet, the number of active cases in the State is 102. A total of 39 cured of the infection and one died.
The Odisha government so far received test reports of 31,696 samples.
In view of the detection of 14 COVID positive cases in Jajpur district today, Principal Secretary of Health department directed the State Surveillance Officer and State Rapid Response Team to proceed to Jajpur for strengthening the surveillance activities and containment measures, said official sources.
This apart, two rapid response teams from AIIMS Bhubaneswar have been deputed to Balasore and Bhadrak districts for strengthening surveillance and cluster containment activities.
