The Odisha government today decided to remove speed breakers from national and state highways inside the state and replace them with rumblers within a month.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Transport department organized with an objective to check road mishaps in the state.
The meeting expected the measure would reduce the number of road mishaps in the state.
It was decided at the meeting to complete the transition within one month. The department will meet after a month to review progress in the work.
“Authorities of National Highway and Works department have been asked to remove speed breakers and replace these with rumblers and proper signage. They have asked them to complete the transition within a month. Moreover, we have asked them to remove medians wherever these have been put without any need,” informed Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi speaking to reporters after the meeting.
It was decided at the meeting to take stringent action against overloading.
“In the event overloading of vehicles, the erring vehicle will be seized, the license of its driver will be canceled and stringent action will be taken against the driver,” said Majhi.
