Odisha reports 3 more COVID-19 confirmed cases; count reaches 148

Bhubaneswar: The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Odisha’s Jajpur district, which has been classified as ‘Red Zone’ by the Centre, is increasing alarmingly by the day, as three more persons from the district tested positive for the virus today. With this, the total confirmed cases in the district surged to 39, including 38 active cases.

Following the new cases, the count in the entire state reached 148, the Health and Family Welfare Department informed.

The three new patients are a 55-year-old male of Birajapur, a 75-year-old female of Katikata area and 30-year-old male of Beherapatana (all are in Containment Zone). While the two male patients have travel history to Kolkata, the woman is a contact of a Kolkata returnee. Contact tracing and followup action of the new patients in underway. All the cases of Jajpur today were asymptomatic, the department informed.

Yesterday, the state reported a steep spike with 17 new COVID-19 cases. Out of the 17 patients, 14 were reported from Katikata area of Jajpur district.

The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 106. While 41 patients have so far recovered, one succumbed to the infection. Khordha has highest 47 number of positive cases followed by Jajpur and Balasore with 39 and 20 cases, respectively.
