Bhubaneswar: The number of total COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha surged to 876 after 42 more persons tested positive for the deadly virus.
The fresh cases are from Jajpur (16), Ganjam (15), Kendrapara (3), Nayagarh (3), Kandhamal ( 2), Boudh (1), Cuttack (1), Khordha (1), Earlier, six cases-four from Puri and two from Balangir district were reported last night. With Kandhamal registering maiden cases, the virus spread to one more district in the state.
Out of 48 fresh cases, including 6 reported last night, 47 were lodged in different quarantine centres whereas one was reported from Puri jail.
With this, the number of active cases in the state surged to 652 while the number of recovered patients now stands at 220. So far, four persons have died due to the respiratory disease in the state.
Worth mentioning Ganjam district has reported the highest number of positive cases at 307 . With scores of migrant workers returning to the Odisha mostly from Surat and West Bengal, the number of cases in the state, mainly in Ganjam district has registered a quantum jump over the last two weeks .
Of the 30 districts in Odisha, 23 have so far reported COVID-19 cases.
