Odisha reschedules work hour of labourers as mercury soars

Bhubaneswar: The Labour department of Odisha government has issued a notification today regulating the working hours of labourers employed outdoors.

The notification said that the labourers across all categories will work from 11 am to 3.30 pm effective from April 1 to June 15 in view of intense heat wave conditions likely to prevail during this time.

Chief Secretary AP Padhi on Wednesday had reviewed heat wave preparedness in the state where Health, Education, Commerce and Transport, Women and Child Development departments were issued specific instructions on preparedness.

Worth mentioning, heat wave has been declared state specific disaster since 2015. At least 15 people had died last year due to intense heat wave.
