Odisha: Rituals at Puri Jagannath temple rescheduled for New Year; Check details

Bhubaneswar: The daily rituals of Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri town have been rescheduled for facilitating smooth darshan at the 12th century shrine on New Year.

“The Pahuda ritual of the presiding deities will be done by 11 pm today (December 31). The doors of the temple will be reopened at 1 am on New Year. The devotees will be allowed to visit the shrine soon after the completion of a few routine rituals of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra,” said an official of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today.

The SJTA and the Puri district administration have made elaborate arrangements for regulating crowd at the shrine.

The authorities have set up an air-conditioned (AC) shed with sitting facilities, toilets and drinking water for the convenience of devotees. Special arrangements are in place for senior citizens and differently-abled persons, sources said.

As many as 90 platoons of police force led by 20 DSPs and 50 Inspectors have been deployed across Puri town to avoid any untoward incident during New Year.

A portion of the Grand Road, from Market Square to the Lions Gate of Srimandir, has been declared as no-vehicle zone for proper regulation of crowd on New Year, added the official.
