Odisha road mishap: Man dies, 6 hurt while returning after cremation

Sundargarh: A person died and six others sustained injuries after an SUV in which they were returning after conducting a cremation dashed against a roadside tree at Kalaseria under Birmitrapur police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, late last night.

According to reports, seven persons of Kuarmunda area were returning home in an SUV after a cremation ceremony when the vehicle rammed into a roadside tree and overturned leaving all the occupants of the four-wheeler critically injured.

Locals rescued the victims and admitted them to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), where one of them succumbed to injuries early this morning. The deceased has been identified as Deepak Kumar Xess.

Two of the injured ones were later shifted to the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela as their condition deteriorated. Police have started investigation into the incident.
