Odisha ruling party MLA Raja Swain faces opposition in own turf

BJD strongman and local MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain aka Raja Swain today faced resistance during the ruling party’s ongoing Sampark Padayatra from a group of locals at Sasanka village under Chhuagaan panchayat in his own constituency.

Swain’s supporters clashed with the villagers who opposed the MLA’s entry into their village alleging irregularities in distribution of commodities under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The villagers further alleged that the MLA hadn’t listened to their problems despite them meeting him on several occasions. A woman was reportedly injured in the clash.

Tension mounted in the area following the incident. Policemen have been deployed in the village to maintain peace.

Police said it was investigating the matter and action will be taken thereafter.
