Odisha sand artist cautions against perils of Blue Whale game

Puri: At a time when reports of suicides linked to the Blue Whale challenge internet game are sending shock waves through the country, internationally renowned Odisha sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand art today to create awareness about the killer game.

Pattnaik sculpted the sand art on Puri beach with a message: “Stay away from Blue killer Whale: Don’t play”.

“My Sand Art with message to innocent young friends at Puri beach in Odisha today,” Pattnaik tweeted.

Earlier in the day, the Orissa High Court admitted public interest litigation (PIL) on the lethal ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ online game.

The High Court served notices to the Secretaries of Union Home Ministry and Telecom and IT Ministry in the matter on a PIL filed by one Shiva Shankar Mohanty.

Mostly, school children and college goers are falling prey to the macabre online Blue Whale game, reportedly created by a former convict in Russia, is said to psychologically provoke players to indulge in daring, self-destructive tasks for 50 days before finally taking the “winning” step of killing themselves.
