Odisha: SC appoints new Amicus Curiae for Srimandir reforms

Puri: The Supreme Court of India today appointed former Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar as the new Amicus Curiae to oversee various reform measures at Srimandir here.

Hearing a PIL filed by Cuttack-based lawyer Mrinalini Padhi, a three-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice AK Shikri, Justice MA Shah and Justice Abdul Nazir appointed the new Amicus Curiae today.

The appointment was necessitated after former solicitor general of India Gopal Subramanium stepped down from his post as Amicus Curiae on November 30 last year. In a letter to the Assistant Registrar of the SC, the senior advocate had mentioned that he will not be able to continue as the Amicus Curiae due to certain unavoidable personal circumstances.

Worth mentioning, the Supreme Court in July last year had directed the temple administration to implement 12 proposals as a part of disciplinary reforms following allegations of exploitation of devotees by servitors and mismanagement at the 12th century shrine.
