Odisha: SCB to initiate music therapy at ICUs

Bhubaneswar: The authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack city have decided to play devotional songs (Bhajana) at the intensive care units (ICUs) of the health facility.

The executive body of the premier healthcare institute has recently approved a proposal in this regard.

“Some members of the executive body had given a proposal to play instrumental or slow music inside the ICUs. They were of the view that this music therapy would have positive impact on the patients. The executive body approved the proposal unanimously,” said a senior official of SCB.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that the hospital authorities have planned to play the devotional songs of popular Odia singer late Bhikari Bal, who is known as the ‘Bhajan Samrat’ in Odisha.

The authorities have decided to hire a private agency to play devotional songs inside all the 310 ICUs at various departments of SCB. Besides, the authorities have planned to install a sound system at the health facility to disseminate information to people and create awareness among them, sources said.

“We are trying our best to improve healthcare at SCB. We hope that this new initiative would provide healing touch to the patients,” added the official.
