Odisha: Schedule for Lord Lingaraj’s Chandan Yatra finalised

Bhubaneswar: The 22-day-long Chandan Yatra of Lord Lingaraj is scheduled to commence on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on April 23.

The Trust Board of the 11th century shrine has recently held a meeting with the servitors and other stakeholders to finalise the schedule for the summer festival.

As per the schedule, the Sahanamela Darshan of Lord Lingaraj would be suspended from 12 noon every day during Chandan Yatra.

The wooden palanquins for Lord Lingaraj and other deities of would be readied by 4 pm. The deities would be carried to Bindusagar tank for Chandan Yatra soon after the completion of Dwipahara Dhoopa ritual at 5.30 pm, said an official of the temple trust board.

The shrine authorities, meanwhile, urged the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to decorate the Chapa (raft) with lights.

The civic authorities have put restrictions on the sale of non-vegetarian items in the immediate surroundings of Bindusagar tank for the summer festival, sources said.

Adequate number of police and Fire Brigade personnel would be deployed near Bindusagar for smooth conduct of Lord’s Chandan Yatra, said the official.
