Odisha school shocker: BJP calls for 12-hour Kandhamal bandh tomorrow

Phulbani: BJP and Kandhamal Surakshya Abhiyan will observe a 12-hour bandh in the district tomorrow to protest the recent incident of a minor girl delivering baby at a State-run residential school in the district.

Through the protest, the activists would press for a seven-point charter of demands, including resignation of SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi and Women and Child Development minister Prafulla Samal. Besides, they would also demand for the transfer of Kandhamal district Collector Brundha D and Kandhamal district welfare officer (DWO) Charulata Mallick.

Meanwhile, the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) has issued a show cause notice to the State Government seeking a detailed report in connection with the incident within four weeks.

Worth mentioning, a minor girl had delivered a baby in the hostel of a residential school run by the SC and ST Development Department at Daringibadi on January 13. However, the baby girl died at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur the next day.
