Nabarangpur: A brutal incident of a schoolteacher flogging students today in Muturma Tribal Primary School in Umerkote block of Odisha's Nabarangpur, has come to light.
According to reports, seven students including a girl student of Class III were admitted to a local hospital after they were beaten by a teacher when they failed to answer the correct meanings of words.
"Our teacher asked us the meanings of words in class. We gave wrong answers and then she beat us," said a student.
The students suffered bruises on their backs and hands, upon which they were taken to the Umerkote Community Health Centre for treatment.
The said teacher Jayantibala Bhadra is currently absconding and school authorities are unable to contact her.
The Block Education Officer Bikash Chandra Sarkar said that an enquiry will be made into the matter and necessary action will be taken against the schoolteacher.
