Odisha scientist Jyotirmayee Dash wins Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize

Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels to Odisha, Dr Jyotirmayee Dash from Jagatsinghpur district has won the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology for the year 2020 in the field of Chemical Sciences.

Dash’s team works on new methodologies for synthesis of diverse molecules that can be used to study structure and function of therapeutic targets.

She will receive the award comprising Rs 5 lakh from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a presentation ceremony by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). Dash became the first woman from Odisha to win the prize.

After pursuing MSc in Chemistry at the Ravenshaw University, Dash received her PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from IIT Kanpur.

She is currently associated with School of Chemical Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata.

Expressing happiness over her achievement, Dash said the prize will inspire her for further research in the field .

Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have congratulated Dash for the feat.
