Phulbani: A senior clerk at the Block Education Office (BEO) at Harabhanga in Boudh district was sentenced to two years of imprisonment by Phulbani Special Vigilance Judge Court in a bribery case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the teacher identified as Birendra Panda for the offence. He will have to spend 6 months more in jail if fails to pay the penalty.
As per reports, Birendra had demanded bribe from a retired teacher to pass bills of his arrears to Treasury office. He was caught red-handed by officials of the anti-corruption unit on February 1, 2016.
Yesterday, the court convicted the clerk after examining all evidences.
