Nabarangpur: The Additional Inspector In-charge (IIC) of Umerkote police station, Limaraj Pradhan, was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 20,000.
As per the complaint, the senior cop had demanded the bribe from a person to not take any action against him in a family dispute case. After the complainant informed the Vigilance about the matter, the anti-graft wing laid a trap and caught Limaraj red-handed. Later, the bribe money was recovered from his possession.
A case has been registered at Koraput Vigilance police station under Section 7 PC (Amendment)Act-2018, in this connection. Further investigation us underway.
“The accused asked the complainant to come to Umerkot police station after 10 pm. However, he came outside to a lonely place to collect the bribe to avoid the CCTV cameras. Seeing a Vigilance team after collecting the money, the cop fled to an adjacent bushy area. He was chased and later apprehended,” said Vigilance sources.
