Odisha senior men’s cricket team kicks off camp ahead of Ranji Trophy season

Cuttack: The Odisha Cricket Association on Wednesday kicked off its official camp for the senior team ahead of the much-awaited Ranji Trophy season which is set to begin from February 16.

The senior camp kickstarted on Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack under the supervision of Chief Coach of the Odisha senior men’s team Wasim Jaffer.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced that the Ranji Trophy will be conducted in a phase manner.

BCCi secretary Jay Shah said that the Ranji Trophy will be held this season in two phases. Shah added that the first phase will have all league matches while the second phase will see the knockouts being held in June.

“The Board has decided to conduct the Ranji Trophy this season in two phases. In the first phase, we plan to complete all matches of the league stage while the knockouts will be held in June. My team is working closely to mitigate any kind of health risk caused by the pandemic, while at the same time ensuring a highly competitive red-ball cricket contest,” Shah was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

Meanwhile, two players from Odisha –Subhranshu Senapati and Abhishek Raut– are in the list of 590 cricketers, who are set to go under the hammer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction, scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
