Odisha: Serial killer Jhasketan gets life imprisonment

Angul: The Court of District and Sessions Judge in Odisha’s Angul has sentenced serial killer Jhasketan Rout to life imprisonment.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the convict.

According to reports, Jhasketan, who hails from Kusakila village under Jarpada police limits in Angul district, had murdered Abala Garnayak (65) and her nephew Kumud Sahu (27) of Kukurpeta village on May 22, 2015.

He had buried Abala’s body near and a pond and concreted the spot. He also buried Kumud’s body near a school in the locality.

Similarly, Jhasketan had killed two persons of Kusakila village on February 4, 2016 and buried the bodies 20 feet below the ground surface.

An FIR against Jhasketan in connection with the death of Abala and Kumud was lodged on February 11, 2016. Police had on January 5, this year arrested Jhasketan from Deogarh district.

Adjudicating the case through videoconferencing, the District and Sessions Judge yesterday held Jhasketan guilty and pronounced the punishment for the convict.
