Odisha shocker: Married woman abducted, gangraped in Kandhamal
G. Udayagiri: In a shocking incident, a married woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped by two miscreants in G. Udayagiri area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district on October 9.
Victim’s husband, a government employee, lodged an FIR in this regard with G. Udayagiri police yesterday (October 12).
The police have begun a probe into the incident after registering a case (No. 139/22) under Sections 376 (1) and 307 of the IPC. They also sent the woman for a medical examination, sources said.
According to sources, the 42-year-old woman had gone to watch a cultural event being orgnaised on the occasion of Laxmi puja near Kalinga Ghat October 9.
Two bike-borne miscreants abducted the woman while she was returning home after the cultural event. The miscreants gangraped the woman and dumped her near a temple at Bediguba, sources said.
On being informed, the staffers of 108 ambulance service rescued the woman in a critical condition and rushed her to a nearby primary health centre. Later, the victim, a psychiatric patient, was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH), sources added.
“G. Udayagiri inspector in-charge Ajay swain is now probing the incident. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the two accused,” said a police officer.
