Paradip: In a shocking incident, a tribal woman allegedly sold her newborn baby boy to a man in Andhra Pradesh for Rs 1 lakh in Paradip in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district. She reportedly sold her one-day old boy child to the Telugu-speaking man through a middleman a couple of days back.

The matter came to the fore after another woman created a scene and levelled allegations that the mother had first agreed to sell the baby to her but later reneged on her promise and sold the baby to another man from Vizag.

As per reports, the tribal woman, identified as Mamina Sarda, was residing in a slum in Sandakud area where she used to get treated by a woman for all health-related concerns. While Mamina had a minor daughter, she was pregnant again and wanted to get an abortion. However, the woman who was looking after her well-being asked her not to abort the baby and instead give the child to her, to which Mamina had reportedly agreed. The woman had later gone to Andhra Pradesh for some work.

Menawhile, Mamina later relocated to Nuabazaar slum a few days back where she came across another middleman and agreed to sell her baby to a man from Vizag.

On Sunday, Mamina got admitted at Atharbanki government hospital and delivered a baby boy. The following day, she sold off the one-day old child to the man. When the woman, who Mamina had assured to hand over the baby, returned and got to know that the baby was sold to another person, she got into a heated argument with the mother and accused her of breaching the commitment despite bearing all her treatment costs.

Till reports last came in, no police complaint had been filed and both the accused mother and middleman were absconding.
